About Product Stewardship
There are currently 11 beverage container stewardship organizations operating in Canada. This website represents the stewards – the companies and agencies appointed by their respective provincial governments — responsible for managing beverage product stewardship programs throughout Canada.
Industry Product Stewardship (IPS) is an environmental management strategy guided by the principle that whoever designs, produces, sells, or uses a product takes responsibility for minimizing that product's environmental impact. The IPS model is comprised of several key players working together to ensure that products no longer being used by consumers are managed in an environmentally friendly manner.
The movement towards IPS is growing. In some jurisdictions, the provincial/territorial governments still maintain control but with the same objectives of the IPS systems.
